B&O quad door single car; 87042 B&O 2-pack.
Pullman Standard built the large batch of quad door cars for the Baltimore & Ohio
in 1965. B&O classed them as M-86 and initially assigned them for
loading in Parma, Ohio and Indianapolis, Indiana for destinations across
the map.

NYC -Conrail double door single car.
With the split of Conrail between Norfolk Southern and
CSX looming, the road began marking cars destined for
the CSX fleet with NYC reporting marks. Though few if
any former New York Central cars still existed with their
original numbers, the NYC reporting mark was still assigned
to Conrail by the AAR. With the split of Conrail complete,
the AAR reassigned the NYC reporting mark to CSX. NYC
241043 was originally built for Penn Central in their
Despatch Shops.Since receiving it’s Conrail paint,
the right door was replaced with an unpainted aluminum
door from another car. Note also this car still has it ’s
pre-1983 con-stencil format (the black and white boxes
on the far right) although the data inside follows current
practices.

NYC -Conrail double door 2-pack.
Following the Conrail split, NYC 237739 had
a left door replaced by CSX. The serviced door
had come from a blue CSX or Chessie car and
still had it ’s instruction lettering
in yellow. NYC 239261 may have (probably did
have)door work in it ’s past but it sports
a matching set! Door work is common on these
large cars due to body flex in the loading
process. In fact, all doors must be opened during
loading so the body will flex evenly. The doors
must be opened and closed in a certain order
based on instructions printed on the doors.

Conrail (large logo) Quad Door single car, 87062 2-pack.
The first months of the Conrail merger produced a number
of cars lettered with stencils pieced together from former
Penn Central and Erie Lackawanna stencils. But by the
summer of 1976, proper Conrail stencils were in place
at the major shops and cars like this began to appear.
Later years would see a refinement in the look culminating
in the Conrail Quality image in the 90s..

Denver & Rio Grande Western double door single
car; 86072 D&RGW 2-pack.
This run is a good example of how auto parts boxcars
are owned and routed. There are no assembly plants located
on the Rio Grande, however they are on the route from
midwestern plants and those on the west coast. Therefore,
within a multi-railroad pool of cars, Rio Grande contributed
a proportion of the fleet. Single
car sold out. We are offering a single from 2 pk set.

Detroit Toledo & Ironton double door single car;
86082 DT&I 2-pack.
Detroit Toledo & Ironton, as the name implies, serves
the heart of America's auto industry. In fact, at one
time the railroad was owned by Henry Ford.

Grand Trunk Western - CN double door single car.
86112
Grand Trunk Western - CN double door 2-pack.
2-pack contains one blue car and one brown
car, shown here.
GTW had been controlled by the Canadian National for decades. In 1995,
CN was privatized and began to replace the familiar GT logo with it ’s
own CN noodle. This version includes CN ’s website address. Most
cars with this lettering are blue but a portion of the fleet is brown
so we are including one in the 2-pack.

87051
New York Central quad door single car; 87052 NYC 2-pack.
This batch of cars was built in 1966, classed by NYC as "104B" and
initially assigned for loading by Chevy in Flint, Michigan on the Grand
Trunk Western. This is another example of auto parts cars belonging to
a multi-railroad pool assigned for loading (and unloading, for that matter)
off home rails. Single car sold out. We
are offering a single from 2 pk set.

86121
Norfolk Southern -gray double door single car. 86122
2-pack.
In recent years,a portion of Norfolk Southern ’s
massive auto parts box fleet has appeared in this rather
glitzy scheme. This scheme even includes the name spelled
out in a style not used on their locomotives. The inclusion
of the stallion logo is also noteworthy.Perhaps the special
treatment reflects the high value of the cargo carried. The
three road numbers in this run are from cars built by Greenville
in the early 70s.
