Great Northern EMD F7's
Kato will offer Great Northern EMD F7 units with silver trucks. There will be an F7 A/B set (F7A and F7B) plus an additional single A unit (F7C).
Also featured will be: LED directional headlight and illuminated number boards and Kato magnetic knuckle couplers.
Great Northern Orange & Green Empire Builder Passenger Cars
Kato will bring back their popular GN Empire Builder passenger cars in the form of three 4-Car Sets. Each car will feature low flange wheels and Kato magnetic couplers. Cars can easily be illuminated with Kato #11209/11210 lighting kits listed below.

The "Empire Builder" ran from Chicago to St. Paul/Minneapolis via the Chicago Burlington & Quincy RR and then via the Great Northern Railway to Seattle along the northern tier of states throught the Cascade mountain range and through the Cascade Tunnel and Glacier National Park in Montana. In Spokane, a section of the train went on to Portland via the Spokane, Portland and Seattle Railway. Head end power consisted of 3 locomotives as an A-B-A combination. There were other named trains these cars could also be used on that were operated by the Great Northern such as the "Internationals" between Seattle and Vancouver, "Western Star" between Chicago and Seattle, "Dakotan", the "Winniped Limited" and others.

New Kato LED Lighting Kits are now available. Not only do the LED's illuminate better, they are recommended because they do not create heat. In some cases, particularly with the use of DCC, there have been reports of the standard lights (11204/11206) damaging cars by melting plastic.
