Maxi-Stack
IV Container Well Car
The second run of Maxi-Stack IV 3-unit container
well car includes four (4) regional road names. Three
(3)
are on the early version of the car body (unlike
Kato's late version) and the fourth, NW Container,
is on the
late version body. With
the exception of NW Container, all of these road
names can be found throughout the nation. NW Container,
out
of Portland, Oregon, runs mostly on the BNSF. We
are doing four (4) road numbers for AOK, Mass Central
and
Iowa Interstate. This N scale model features die-cast
metal wells with plastic and etched metal details,
crisp painting and sharp lettering. They will come
with the new BLMA trucks with metal wheels. The
end trucks will be the 70 ton version and intermediate
trucks will be the 100 ton version. These 3-unit
articulated sets come fully assembled, ready-to-run
with body-mounted
knuckle couplers. We have redesigned the articulators,
they were originally the same as the Maxi-Stack III.
Now they will allow the car's wells to be packaged
in a "3 up" box similar to the Kato box
but with a window to display the car. There will
be room
to package containers with the cars.

Santa
Fe may have been a late comer to double stack technology,
but once they got started, they quickly became a major factor.
These Santa Fe cars are numbered SFLC for their Santa Fe
Leasing Co. subsidiary, likely for tax and financing reasons.
This fleet continues in operation today for BNSF. |
BNSF ex-BN
America Maxi-Stack III
BNSF inherited Gunderson Maxi-Stack III's from both of its chief predecessors,
Santa Fe and Burlington Northern. These former BN cars, both carrying the large
BN "wrenches" logo (some BN cars carried a smaller version) have been
renumbered BNSF with the use of a BNSF Mineral Red patch and new white numbers.
Originally built to concentrate on domestic container service, the move toward
53' domestic containers and a huge increase in international container traffic
has led BNSF's Maxi IIIs to see more use in international stack train service
in recent years. |
Northwestern
Oklahoma Railroad Co. (NOKL reporting marks)
is a shortline railroad operating in Woodward, Oklahoma.
It provides switching
services for industrial customers and interchanges
with the BNSF Railway. These Maxi-IIIs were owned
by Rabanco, a regional waste service company operating intermodal
waste trains.
The cars were purchased, patched and the NOKL reporting marks
were added. Introductory Pricing
