Kato Mid Production SD40-2
  • Original release from Kato on this model featured the BN Whie Face and CN (IC) repaint -- both shown at left / now discontinued.
  • Based on post 1990 production plans

Prototype Information:
The BN amassed a fleet of 827 SD40-2's. They started out hauling coal trains out of Wyoming's Powder River Basin and then started moving transcontinental freight between the West Coast and the Midwest.
The CN - IC Repaint has generated interest from both the Canadian modelers and the U.S. modelers because of the IC (Illinois Central) markings on a CN locomotive.
 Built originally for the Burlington Northern, they were later purchased by the ATSF, Illinois Central (now CN) and NS. Many received BNSF colors in various paint schemes including the Swoosh version.
 As a prototype, this was the most popular 2nd generation diesel with sales of over 3000 in the US and more than 700 in Canada.
Model Features:
Based on Mid Production Run post 1990 production of the SD40-2.
Due to the long production run, there were many variations of the popular diesel. The Kato Model will feature:
Ditch Lights so the model can be used in combination with other modern locos.
Ditch Lights will be deck mounted, as per prototype. They will also be equipped with anti-climbers.
Cars will feature magnetic knuckle couplers.
Kato's famous low friction split frame flywheel equipped mechanism.
Bright-white™ LED headlight.
All models will be equipped with Kato's new profile blackened metal wheels (similar to those used on the smooth-running P42's).

N Scale Sound Decoders

New Plug 'n Play Sound Board for Kato SD40-2
  • MRC surges forward with another miracle of N-Scale decoder engineering: with no connectors, no wiring, no machining, no “dremeling”… the easiest decoder installation possible.
